Galileo – 360° Pan-and-Tilt Device for iOS

Quite a cool device. I'm curious about the sensitivity levels when swiping across the Apple devices to control the pan and tilt...

Galileo on Kickstarter from Josh Guyot on Vimeo.

"A Santa Cruz, California-based company, Motrr, has a Kickstarter project up and running at the moment in hopes of raising enough funding to get this remote 360° pan-and-tilt robotic platform for your iOS devices.
The Galileo is a revolutionary, iOS-controlled robotic iPhone platform with infinite spherical rotation capability. Just swipe your finger on the screen of your iPad or other iOS device and Galileo reacts, orienting your iPhone or iPod Touch accordingly.  With applications in areas of photography, cinematography, social networking, and video conferencing, Galileo gives iOS devices endless possibilities of remote-controlled motion. Capable of infinite 360° pan-and-tilt at speeds up to 200° per second in any orientation, Galileo is an invaluable tool to everyone from an amateur photographer to the professional cinematographer, and vastly improves the experience of video chat for anyone needing to stay connected.

OUTLIER x FEIT Supermarines – 2012 Edition

These appear and sound quite impressive, in terms of quality and materials.  Interested in seeing them in person for a better evaluation.

Cole Haan LunarGrand Wingtip @ UNDFTD

Still curious about the comfort levels of these LunarGrand Wingtips. The Navy and Brown are the only two that seem appealing though, the other bright yellow sole is a bit odd...

"Originally announced as a SoHo release, the LunarGrand Wingtip will make its way onto the shelves of a familiar retail partner to Cole Haan’s parent company Nike. It’s fitting that L.A.’s UNDFTD is taking delivery of the Lunarlon-fused wingtip, as the anticipation level for the shoe has climbed steadily since it was previewed last month, and and company are never far from an exclusive footwear release. The LunarGrand represents a snapshot of the contemporary menswear landscape, in which trad styling and street blend effortlessly, and pop colors in moderation are always welcome. Jun Takahashi: My Thoughts on UNDERCOVER for Uniqlo

Into the mind of the man behind Undercover and the recent Undercover x Uniqlo collection...

"Following an early announcement this past summer, the comprehensive visuals for the UNDERCOVER for Uniqlo Spring/Summer 2012 “UU” capsule collection have been released as we anticipate the actual ability to purchase the garments. Jun Takahashi crafted the extensive line of products for the retailer alongside his wife and partner RICO which is scheduled to drop March 16. Recently, Takahashi took to his blog over at honeyee to talk about this thoughts on UNDERCOVER for Uniqlo.
Since the announcement of this project, I have heard a lot of opinions, both pro and con. Some say they can’t make heads or tails out of UNIQLO’s intention in partnering with UNDERCOVER, and others say they are expecting to see something truly innovative come out of this collaboration of polar opposites. It is only natural to think that opinions would be divided.
More than a year ago, when I first heard this talk, I questioned this project; to be honest, my first thought was “Why us?” It may be my personality, but at the same time, I felt a combination of apprehension and curiosity. At first, just to satisfy my curiosity, I wanted to hear from the people in charge who were really passionate.
Talks began with the reason for the request from UNIQLO, “We want the creations for the Japanese to reach people around the world.” To which I replied, “What should I do?” “What can we accomplish?” “Do we have anything in common, and if so what?” As I asked these questions I found myself gradually becoming interested in this project. We had several more discussions, as a result of which, an idea popped up almost simultaneously from both sides: “clothes for mom, dad and the children; clothes for the family.” We had found our common ground.
As far as children’s clothing is concerned, as UNDERCOVER announced some 10 years ago, because we were unable to balance production volume and cost, we had to sadly give up. My wife, RICO, did the designing. RICO is really fabulous at creating children’s clothes. One of the main reasons why I decided to do this project and resume making children’s clothes was the fact that the line had so many fans. Another big reason was that I wanted to offer our creations to people who until now had never heard of UNDERCOVER. In this regard, we have a bigger footprint than other brands. It would be a wonderful thing to have many people wearing the clothes I had designed. Price-wise and design-wise UNDERCOVER clothing was not for everyone, but now it could be.
That said, if I made such clothes with strong design elements that I have always done, this collaboration would never have come about. The basic idea of Uniqlo is “low priced products everyone can wear.” The role of UNDERCOVER is to add a little spice to that basic principle. You might say that adding a “spoonful of spice” is what this project is all about.
Some people might say that this project is not what UNDERCOVER is about; then again others might say it’s “just right.” Everyone has their opinion, so there are of course going to be pros and cons. The results of my spoonful of spice on our collaboration can be seen on the “uu” site and in our catalog. Designs recognizable by everyone. I thought at that time, what design can I infuse in basic clothing? It’s not going to work if you add too much or remove too much. Where do you stop? The first season was in a manner of speaking a series of trials and errors. The selection of fabrics and colors, cost vs. design, how to stay balanced and edgy. It meant using a totally different headset than before to design clothes for uu that are completely different from UNDERCOVER. It was a really difficult task.
Now all the designs for the second season have been finished. For me, in the second season I was able to finally get a feel for the shape of this collaboration. Last week, we already held the second season individual color sample approval meeting. (The approval meeting is where all the key members of the project, starting with President Yanai, meet to hear an explanation of the new products.) After running through the product descriptions, President Yanai said, “Truly amazing, I’m really impressed!” Looking at the second season, it seemed to me that President Yanai could see the part UNDERCOVER had played in the collaboration. At that moment I felt the question “What should I do for Uniqlo?” was clearly answered. It would appear my idea to “add a spoonful of spice” had been accepted. (I don’t know if 100%, but I just might ask President Yanai the next time I see him).
Whether or not this collaboration will continue in the future has not been decided yet, but in any case a new page in my life has been written. As always, I try my best and never cut corners.
A new endevor for a new era.
A project only UNDERCOVER can undertake.
“We offer families something positive in these tough times.” That is the thinking behind uu designs. I sincerely hope your family enjoys our clothes.

SEIKO Astron GPS Solar Watch – World’s First GPS Solar Watch

Always on time, wherever you may be...

"Just as SEIKO‘s introduction of the world’s first quartz watch back in 1969, the unveiling of its Astron GPS Solar timepiece at this week’s BASELWORLD transforms the world of horology once again. With its own Caliber 7X52 movement and encased in titanium, there are no remarkable differences between the Astron GPS Solar watch and many of its contemporaries. The truly unique aspect, however, is the Astron’s ability to adjust time accurately and automatically to whatever timezone its in. While such watch already exist on the market, the Astron will be the first to utilize orbiting GPS satellites instead of radio transmission towers. There are several immediate advantages, including limitless range and the inclusion of all 39 timezones around the globe. To activate the automatic calibration, simple push a button and the high-tech system will do the rest. In fact, with its perpetual calendar accurate to the year 2100 and a solar power unit that functions in any forms of light source, the Astron GPS Solar watch is taking a first step in a brand horology category. Prices ranging from US$1,900 to $2,600, the Astron GPS Solar will be available at select dealers later this year." - Freshness

The 101: Eames Chairs

Iconic and classic. Then, now, and through the future...

"Many a rendition from the fabled Eames design duo must feature among the most iconic designs of the 20th century. Throughout the years, these iconic designs have endured in production until now thanks to the efforts of Herman Miller. The story behind the chairs really is remarkable. In the early 1940s, when Charles Eames was working at MGM set designs in Hollywood, he and his wife Ray experimented with wood-molding techniques that have since produced profound effects on the design world. They had been molding plywood in their apartment with what they affectionately called the “Kazam Machine,” which essentially pressed thin sheets of wood veneer against a heated membrane inflated by a common bicycle pump.

Their discoveries at the time led to a commission from the US Navy to develop plywood splints, stretchers and glider shells—molded under heat and pressure—for the military during World War II. After the war, Charles and Ray applied the technology they had developed to making affordable, high-quality household chairs that could be mass-produced using curved plywood instead of then-typical cushioned upholstery. When they found that the wood could not necessarily withstand the stresses that occurred where the chair seat and back met, they abandoned their original single-shell idea in favor of separate molded plywood surfaces for the seat and back. The process resulted in more efficient use of materials, reduced weight, sleeker design and greater comfort — and the Eames chair inadvertently became the basis for modern furniture design.

Abundant in modernity, the Eames chair finds distinction at the MOMA, posterity in paintings and magazines, and anonymity in stylish homes, around offices, schools and random yet tastefully decorated public areas. It has also been subject to much examination, documentation, scrutiny and acclamation, and seems able to transcend trend and decade with its solid wood, unparalleled design and beautiful craftsmanship..." - Hypebeast

Nike Air Max 95 No Sew | Pre-Order

Happy Birthday to my favorite Nike shoe ever and the one shoe that started my collection. This is another one of those designs that require an in-person inspection. Not sure about the whole "No Sew" design...

"On the Air Max 95′s 15th birthday, Nike released the classic sneaker in a colorway reminiscent of its original neon colorway. This year, as the Air Max 95 hits 17, Nike Sportswear decided to give it a no-sew pressure-welded upper, which gives it the sleek appeal of a one-piece upper. While the construction of the upper is unfamiliar, the colorway gradient definitely is as shades of black and grey climb the upper while neon volt accents on the Swoosh, full-length Air bag, and eyelets. While the exact day in April hasn’t been announced, you can treat yourself now with a pre-order at end clothing‘s online store.

Michael Jordan’s Highland Park Home On The Market

What an amazing home. I'm assuming the possible context for this sale would be due to the fact that Jordan is no longer with his wife and they're looking to sell and move their separate ways...

"’s mansion in Highland Park has hit the market, and you’re going to have to have sell a lot of rare Air Jordans if you want to put in an offer. Listed at a cool $29 million, the compound measures over 56,000 square feet, with nine bedrooms, a three-bedroom guest house, indoor-outdoor entertaining and pool area, tennis court, putting green and 15-car garage. Needless to say, there’s an attached indoor full-sized basketball court complete with a sound system tuned to provide the right acoustics for the space. The tastefully appointed house is where Michael and now former wife Juanita raised their three children. One prospective buyer has already complained about the lack of “Nike Air” on the gates.
