Ferrari 340 Competizione

Ferrari has been pushing the limits for quite sometime in terms of modernizing the exotic automobile. This is a bit of an homage to the vintage classics...

"Taking a classic car and making it look modern is one thing, but it’s definitely something else to make a new car to look like a classic. This concept’s been pulled off with the Ferrari 340 Competizione, that’s been built to pay homage to the 1952 Ferrari 340 Mexico. Having been limited to only three examples, the Competizione is a one-off that started as a Ferrari 456 GT and kept its 470hp, 5.4L V12 and six-speed manual. Added features along development included new aerodynamics, suspension, brakes, an interior and aluminum bodywork, with modern detailing that’s reminiscent of the 340 Mexico." - High Snobiety

Streething – New Balance: Japanese ideas in an American Company | Video

Its heritage lies in the US. However, New Balance has taken on quite a following outside of the US. In Japan and the UK both, are designs and collaborations that have developed a sneaker culture far more passionate about the brand than stateside.  Key individuals in Japan being a primary contributor in making some of the lesser known styles of NB more desirable and appealing are featured here in this video...

New Balance: Japanese ideas in an American Company from STreething on Vimeo.

"Ever wondered how the New Balance sneakers and its whole approach differs in Japan? Well the answer is not as simple as it seems and it might take four key individuals to explain their view on and how the brand has filtered into the complex Japanese market. Tetsuya Shono (New Balance Japan) and Eugene Yeo (New Balance Singapore) speaks on the current direction of the athletic brand and its product heritage. On the other hand Shigeyuki Kunii (mita sneakers) and Yoshifumi Egawa aka Yoppy (HECTIC) elaborates on their successful sneaker collaboration project and their opinion on the relationship with New Balance. The video interviews were compiled by Streething and it can be watched in full after the jump." - Freshness

Tokyo Shopping Excursion – Harajuku

High Snobiety's next stop in their shopping series of articles, featuring Harajuku. Oh, to be in Japan again...

"Yesterday we reported about our Shibuya visit. Right next to Shibuya you find Harajuku and whatever you have seen in terms of shopping before, you can simply forget when having wondered through the small and narrow streets of the district. One shop stacks up on top of the other, with at least 3 stores placed one on top of each other in each building of the entire shopping area. You simply do not know where to look anymore and where not. Missing one little corner, might mean missing several dope stores.

What that means is, that you have to be selective. We might have to come back to Harajuku later on, but for now we can present some of the stores we visited during the day and we were definitely not disappointed.

Head on after the jump to take a look at the complete listing and review." - High Snobiety

Tokyo Shopping Excursion – Shibuya

High Snobiety gives their readers a glimpse into the shopping scene in Japan. This segment features Shibuya...

"Today we arrived in Tokyo and started with a more extensive stroll through the Shibuya shopping area. Being the world’s most dense shopping area, you have to be prepared to work your way through the streets. Addresses are not very easy to find, but with some asking around and a map you will find most of your stores eventually.

As usual, the stores that you most look forward to see might not strike you as that amazing in reality and others that you just wanted to quickly pass by, you end up being stuck for an hour. Shibuya is only one of many other shopping districts, and while we sure missed a lot, we give you here a little report on what we did see and can recommend. Overall there is no doubt, Tokyo is a retail mecca that is hard to beat.

Check out the full review after the jump." - High Snobiety

2011 Nike MAG Price Infographic

Impressive, is just one word describing the release of the MAGs...

"For sneaker collectors and enthusiasts curious about the recent 2011 Nike MAG developments, a pricing infograph has surfaced courtesy of Fordham University Graduate School of Business student, Zach Kingsley. This piece of information illustrates the economics of getting a pair in the most popular size 10. The infographic compares the price points of Nike’s coveted shoe against a timeline to see its steady decline. Updated every night, sources of this infograph come from eBay’s completed listings of MAG’s nightly sales. No doubt much of the interest in the shoe’s pricing is due to the fact that no suggested retail price would allow the shoe to sell the good ol’ fashion capitalist way based on market demand." - Hypebeast

Supreme x Levis – Fall 2011 Collection

Interested to see more detailed photos of the Chambray...

"When founded Supreme in 1994, his intended target market were the kids who embodied downtown New York skate culture, but he never considered his brand to fall under the rubric of streetwear. Rather, Jebbia sees as a lifestyle brand that caters to discerning consumers in the know, along the lines of A.P.C. This is the sensibility that allows Supreme to partner with brands such as Adam Kimmel or Clarks. For its latest collaboration, Supreme turned to the venerable American denim label Levi’s. The U.S.-manufactured capsule collection is made up of 505 jeans, chambray work shirt, denim down vest  and denim bell hat. All are available in blue or black and come with an orange Levi’s tag. The assortment is rounded out with a Trucker Jacket in black leather or tan suede.

Nike MAG Sneakers | Tinker Hatfield Shows us the Sketches

Speaking with the man behind the MAG and many other classic Nike designs, Tinker Hatfield...

"Vice President of Design at Nike, Tinker Hatfield, walked us through the early sketches that lead to the development of the Nike MAG for the “Back to the Future” film back in the mid 80’s.
The focus with Nike when developing almost all their footwear is with the athelete in mind first and foremost. As Mr. Hatfield discussed this afternoon, the development of the Nike MAG for the “Back to the Future” film allowed for the company to do things a bit differently. In his words, the opportunity allowed Hatfield to “do anything.. try anything… it opens up your mind and in our case, it gave us a lot of freedom to do things we wouldn’t normally do.”
The sketches presented show the history and build-up to the final product. Ideas are laid on paper, tested and re-examined as the Nike design team worked to bring the MAG to life on the big screen. One interesting aspect of original Nike MAG design and the production pair which were used in the film involved illuminating the shoe. Actor, Michael J. Fox carried a heavy battery pack clipped to his back to power the Nike MAG. Today’s version has it all built on the inside.
Stroll through these early Nike MAG sketches. We’ve also included various looks from Mr. Hatfield of the unveiling of the Nike MAG.

Nike MAG Sneaker | The Details of the MAG

Great detailed shots of the Nike MAG (Back to the Future II) courtesy of High Snobiety...

"Looking for details? Here’s another look at the new Nike MAG sneakers. We focus in on the details that will make the MAG some of the most sought after sneakers of the year. The glowing LED panel is there as is the electroluminescent NIKE logo on the strap. The foam support in the ankle and toe box have been increased for comfort which differs from the original in the “Back to the Future” movie.
The MAG is illuminated by pinching the “ear’ of the high top. The feature itself makes it the first rechargeable footwear from Nike. Each shoe holds a five hour charge.
As well, it should be noted that this made not be the last we see of the MAG. We still have to wait for the “self-lacing” and it is still not “2015.” Think on that for a moment…
Finally as Mr. Rubin made clear to us, there will be 150 pairs sold on Ebay for 10 days (bringing us to 1500 total pairs). They will be auctioned live on nikemag.ebay.com at 8:30 PST and 11:30 EST.

INSA – Girls On Bikes

INSA has a a piece here in the city at Oak and Scott at the Oak Fair Market...

"During his successful exhibition in Hong Kong, INSA unveiled the completed set of his ongoing public installation project, Girls On Bikes. Now the rest of the world will get to see the 12 individual photos that work together as a unified piece. The seemingly random images seeks a deeper meaning on how we perceive ownership of public space, represented by his mural, of sexuality, represented by overtly sexualized female presence and of belongings, represented by the bicycles. Majority of the photographs were taken in London, however there are some exceptions with San Fransisco, Ghent, Los Angeles and Hong Kong mixing things up." - Freshness

Nike – “It’s About Time”

A great teaser for one of the most surprising Nike shoe release events to date...

"It was something out of military lore.  There were no indicators, no hints, even our Nike hosts answered our inquisitions with smiles and simple responses, “You’ll see”…  Some hours later and still woozy from jet lags, we arrived  in Los Angeles for a “secret event”.   But not just any event, one that will include Vice President of Design and Innovation, Tinker Hatfield, at its Keynote address.  Yet, everyone hushed up at our inquests at L.A. too.  Things became somewhat obvious a few minutes ago when we entered our hotel rooms.  In each accommodation, a tricked out amenity package with a sleek aluminum shade tagged with “It’s About Time” at the ear piece.  Along side it,  a Apple iShuffle with message from Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown saying “If my calculation are correct, for the next 24hrs you are gonna see serious stuff!” Things are becoming clearer now…

Penfield – Fall/Winter 2011 Collection Lookbook – “From Rockport to Cambridge” | By F.E. Castleberry

Penfield's F/W 2011 Collection. Amazing designs for both men and women...

"Like the trade wind that brought cross cultural influences centuries ago, the preppy styling of New England is a distinctive fashion genre all of its own. A dab of Anglophile tradition, intermixed with American pragmatic approach, then tempered with the unique bond with the Atlantic Ocean, the looks of New England is as much Americana as Cowboy boots and Levi’s jeans. In presenting its origin and root of inspirations, Penfield compiled a photo series, “From Rockport to Cambridge”, as its Fall/Winter 2011 Collection Lookbook. With help from blogger F.E. Castleberry of Unabashedly Prep along with stylists Christine Mitchell and Branden “Skip” Brooks, the new lookbook highlights some of pieces, long favorites among its fans, in the setting where it all started. In addition to the lookbook, all items featured in it are now available at retail locations around the globe as well as its online store." - Freshness

Penfield – Kasson Tweed Mountain Parka

Love the design and contrast in materials on this latest Penfield parka...

"Penfield are releasing two styles of their classic mountain parka designs for the Fall season and the Kasson Tweed Mountain Parka combines two orthodox fabrics in one jacket. On the top half and the sleeves, Hudson Wax materials are used to deflect showers and wind. Down below, their original herringbone tweed fabric is situated providing warmth. Large snap buttoned storm flap covers the two way zippers on the front opening and an extra buckle is placed at the collar as well. Apart from the standard four pockets on the front, a large game pocket is located on the back with access provided by side entrance on the right. Both of the jackets are currently available at retailers and their online shop." - Freshness

Beams x Puma Faas 500 ‘Disc Blaze System’

Beams brings their perspective and style to the Puma Fass 500 combined with Disc Blaze System...

"In an interesting new collaboration, Japanese retailer Beams teamed up with Puma. Rather than simply going with a Puma style, the retailer presents a mix of old and new. The Faas 500 light weight running sneaker comes in two colorways for Fall/Winter 2011, featuring the iconic Disc Blaze System on the upper. We quite like this modern version of the iconic sneaker. The upper is all black, sitting on a crisp and clean white outer sole. These will release very soon." - High Snobiety

UNIQLO +J – Fall/Winter 2011 – Men’s Outerwear Collection

Jill Sanders and Uniqlo do it again. Some amazing pieces here...

"To get an early start before the horde of shoppers flooding through SoHo this Thursday evening for Fashion’s Night Out, UNIQLO‘s flagship store in New York City will launch the much sought after Collection tomorrow morning at 8 am EST. The final collaborative effort between iconic fashion designer Jil Sander and parent company, Fast Retailing, the project was a method to set precedence, that foremost design and quality need not be stagnant when affordability is in the equation. Instead, a balance between all factors can be reach. While it is true that majority of UNIQLO +J products cost more than the typical UNIQLO products. In comparison to designer labels, even Sander’s own eponymous brand, the affordability is quite obvious. In preparation for the launch, UNIQLO will open its doors at 8 am tomorrow morning. But because of the interests, expect a line-up some sort in front of the store.

Nike Air Max 90 Hyperfuse ‘Infrared’

Didn't end up picking up a pair of the OG Infrareds or the retros just cause I slept, will most likely never see these either. Diggin' the custom box label. Still definitely intrigued about the whole Hyperfuse technology...

"At this year’s Crooked Tongues BBQ a very special sneaker turned up. After Germany had already seen the release of an Air Max 1 Hyperfuse OG in the white/blue colorway, London got the Air Max 90 Hyperfuse ‘Infrared’. The most iconic AM90 colorway was put on the new Hyperfuse version of the sneaker. Before you get excited, we unfortunately have to let you know that these will not go on sale. If it is the same procedure as with the AM1 Hyperfuse OG, then these were produced in a limited run of 80 pairs and only handed out to select folks.
Crooked Tongues made it a little more interesting in this case and allowed people to enter a give-away during the BBQ via Twitter. A few lucky ones received their pair already and if you want one, keep a close eye on eBay.

ReCraft Your Table Manners: Kniggerich Placemat

Educate yourself on proper dinner placement...

"Kniggerich is a placemat, which shows the user how to behave while having an elegant dinner. Kniggerich has it’s name of Mr. Knigge. He once wrote a book “On Human Relations”, a treatise on the fundamental principles of human relations that has the reputation of being the authoritative guide to behaviour, politeness, and etiquette. The German term “Knigge” has become to mean “good manners”.
The placemat is not only a educational device, it is also amusing how strict some rules are. Enjoy your meal."- ReCraft

Loopwheeler Osaka – Officially Opens

One of these days, I'll pick up some Loopwheeler gear and enjoy their amazing fleece...

"After an assortment of previews and teases, the fabled Japanese label Loopwheeler finally opened its third retail location in Japan’s second largest city, Osaka. Situated at the city’s busy Central District (aka Chou Ward), the new storefront is in good company with the Marc Jacobs Osaka flagship just a few doors down. Like all other flagships, the new Osaka location bears the signature of Wonderwall‘s Masamichi Katayama, a close friend of Loopwheeler proprietor Satoshi Suzuki.  While the store is no bigger than most walk-in closet in the U.S., the special designs and other unique offerings speak volumes for the fanciful retail space instead.  For duration of the next few weeks, expect more specialty items to be offer exclusively by the Osaka location.
