MEDICOM TOY x AMIREX – Dry Carbon Fiber BE@RBRICK 400%

"This past summer we previewed an all-aluminum version of MEDICOM Toy‘s BE@RBRICK made with the help of the skilled craftsman at Japan’s Amirex. Now the duo is back with a Dry Carbon Fiber version of the iconic bear in a 400% size. Made with the same composite that is commonly found in aircraft and cars, this cutting-edge dual-weave take on the iconic figurine stands tall at just over 280mm and is set for a mid-December release. Just like its aluminum kin, this Carbon Fiber Bearbrick is minimalist in appearance with branding appearing under its paws and is cast of only carbon fiber before being hand finished to ensure the highest quality finish. These are limited in numbers and will be available at the project 1/6 online store beginning December 19, 2012.

Release Date: December 19, 2012 (Wednesday)" - Freshness

Original Fake KAWS Companion Resting Place Figure

It's been quite sometime, since KAWS has released a new companion figure. This one is a slight revision on his already released dissected companion figure, with a new position...

"It has been a while since New York artist KAWS and his brand Original Fake have released a toy and more importantly, it has been a while since a strong one has released. Both the recent Snoopy Toy and KAWS Partners Toy were among the less popular releases. That is definitely a out to change.
Today we can give you a first preview of the upcoming KAWS Companion Resting Place Figure. The Companion remains to be one of the most iconic characters to ever be created by the artist and the Companion toys have also always been a big success.
The figure should be releasing very soon on Kawsone.com, we will of course keep you posted." - High Snobiety

It's great to see Medicom diversifying their be@rbrick designs. I really like the iconic design, just curious how well the diffuser works...

"Leading up to the MEDICOM TOY EXHIBITION 2012, another interesting product is ready to launch at the event. We recently previewed the MEDICOM TOY BE@RBRICK Speaker System, and it looks like they have dabbled in interior accessories once again by producing this BE@RBRICK Aroma Diffuser. The figure measures at 280mm or 400%, and there is a mechanical fan inside its head, which blows the nice aroma of essential oils. This diffuser works on two AA batteries, and after 30 minutes of continuous use, this device is programmed to turn itself off automatically. Porter x Karimoku x Medicom Toy 400% Bearbrick

Absolutely beautiful! Medicom's wooden Be@rbricks have always been amazing in quality and materials. Combined with Porter, makes this pretty difficult to not add to the collection. Unfortunately, the price tag for this version is slightly out of reach...

"2012 marks the 77th anniversary of Yoshida & Co (the makers of Porter bags), and to celebrate, the heritage luggage and accessory label is going big — 400% big. They’ve enlisted the help of Japanese Karimoku craftsmen to handcraft a giant Medicom Bearbrick out of exotic Padauk wood. Naturally, the bears are being produced in exceptionally limited quantities — each, carrying two bags inspired by Yoshida’s iconic ‘Porter silhouette,’ used in the company’s classic branding campaigns. The 400% Bearbrick isn’t expected to be available for purchase until October 2012, which will leave you plenty of time to save, as it’ll set you back ¥74,000 JPY (approximately $915 USD)." - Hypebeast

The latest news from Japanese toy designer, Shikaruna. The Marine Kong gets a very subtle face lift with a more enthusiastic expression...

New Face:
Old Face:

"Shikaruna is putting out a new head sculpt for its Marine Kong figure. The sculpt has the beastie with a laughing expression. He always struck me as a jovial chap, so I think the new look works great. It also fits in nicely with the lighter vibe of Shikaruna's anime series." - Kaiju Korner
