Bang & Olufsen’s New BeoLab 15/16 Speaker System

"Bang & Olufsen, the Danish provider of high end, custom-made audio and video products announces the launch of its latest built-in sound system at the 2013 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The integrated speaker solution is comprised of two-way active speakers (BeoLab 15), an active subwoofer (BeoLab 16) and a rack-ready amplifier (Amplifier 1) – all created specifically for in-wall or in-ceiling placement.

The design and engineering teams have collaborated on a visual identity that is distinct but discreet, with a motorized tilt function that directs the sound where you want it when the speakers are on, then retreats to flush when no longer needed.

“The motorized tilt functionality brings a touch of magic to an in-wall, in-ceiling speaker. It offers something unexpected to the listening experience and also makes the performance and acoustical sound stage so much better,” states Zean Nielsen, President of Bang & Olufsen America, Inc. “There is no doubt that the BeoLab 15/16 built-in sound solution will resonate well with the North American consumer. Its design, custom installation and natural aluminum finish makes it second to none in its category.”

The new BeoLab 15, BeoLab 16 and Amplifier 1 sound solution is available at selected Bang & Olufsen stores from January 2013. Priced at $4595 for the entire solution – pair of BeoLab 15 speakers, BeoLab 16 and the Amplifier 1." - High Snobiety

‘Ballo’ Portable Stereo Speakers by Bernhard Burkard for OYO

"Bernhard Burkard is a swiss design studio, developed the ‘Ballo Speaker’ speaker for Hong Kong based brand OYO (Objects You Obsess).
The shape of the Ballo is conceived as a perfect sphere with no actual stand. The speaker is round as a ball and lays, rolls or hangs for a 360 degree music experience. A colorful belt fuses two hemispheres, protecting the speaker and increasing the bass tones when placed on a surface. The device is equipped with a built-in rechargeable lithium battery. A standard 3.5mm jack used for headphones makes the Ballo compatible with most audio devices. The speaker turns on automatically when connected to a device. If you want stereo sound you need to connect 2 speakers via a stereo wire, as the audio output is singularly mono.

Check out the Ballo Speakers in different color variations in the gallery above." - High Snobiety

Jay-Z Will Write The Great Gatsby Score

"Word is that no one less than Jay-Z himself will be putting together the score for the soon releasing The Great Gatsby remake.

Indeed, it was confirmed by Jay’s collaborator on the project, producer The Bullitts, who tweeted, “Jay-Z and myself have been working tirelessly on the score for the upcoming #CLASSIC The Great Gatsby! It is too DOPE for words!”

It might sound crazy but not all that unexpected as a matter of fact that firstly Jay-Z provided the track ‘No Church In The Wild’ for the second Gatsby trailer and secondly, Baz Luhrmann is the director, who’s poppy and hyper-saturated style of making pictures is so just like Jay. - we are curious!" - High Snobiety

Nosaj Thing – Saturn’s Return

"Underground producer Nosaj Thing dabbles in various genres, having worked with everyone from Kendrick Lamar to Toro Y Moi over the span of his decade-long music career. The Los Angeles-based artist is working on a new album, Home, which is a follow-up to his 2009 genre-blurring release, Drift. The artist sat down with HYPETRAK for an exclusive interview about his love for hip-hop, working with designer Daito Manabe and the roller coaster that is being in one’s 20s. An altogether humanizing interview for a lofty talent, the conversation surely generates attention for Home, which releases on January 22. Choice excerpts from the interview can be read below while the interview is available in its entirety here.

Let’s talk about early beginnings, how did you get started with music?

I got into DJ’ing through older friends when I was 12, but I started producing freshman year of high school. I was 13 and a friend of mine gave me some production software and I installed it on my Dad’s computer and since then I was just kind of hooked.

What was the music like in the beginning?

The guys that I was DJ’ing with, they were doing hip-hop so it started with that. But then my homie that gave me the production software also liked house music. So it was cool that I had friends that were into different types of music at a young age that influenced me to actually try different styles from the start.

Speaking of style, your sound it’s very unique, is that something you can put into words?

Ha, I don’t know, man. Well for Nosaj Thing it’s hip-hop, it’s electronic music. It’s experimental." - Hypebeast

Cash Kings 2012 – Hip-Hop’s 20 Top Earners

"Forbes is back with its Cash Kings 2012 list, naming the Top 20 earners of the Hip Hop industry for the year. There are not too many surprises on the list. Jay-Z and Kanye West sit on spots 3 and 4 of the list, not surprising with their ‘Watch The Throne’ tour activities of the last 12 months. The top earners did not make their money with music though – Dre made 100 Million USD with his Beats By Dr. Dre headphone empire, which was sold in part to HTC and Diddy once again made a fair share of his money with Ciroc Vodka.

Mixtape Table by Jeff Skierka

Because music is a daily part of our lives...

"Coffe tables taking on the shape of items from yesteryear are pretty cool. Do you guys remember the Nintendo NES Controller table we showed you last month? This time around, we present another iconic item made into the form of a table with a cassette tape — or mixtape in this case — that has been created as a 12:1 scale replica made out of reclaimed maple, walnut and lucite. Its maker, Jeff Skierka, did a great job of capturing the essence of the mixtape. This table is a prototype and one of a kind at the moment, and if we hear more about further production pieces, we will let you know.
Take a detailed look at the Mixtape Table after the jump." - High Snobiety
