Nike Zoom Kaiju Snowboarding Boot – Air Jordan III Inspired | Available Now
"First previewed here back in June, the Nike Zoom Kaiju Snowboarding Boot is now available for purchase. The padded boot has a number of unique benefits providing enhanced cushioning and traction: a black and grey synthetic upper with flex notches for a comfortable fit; external TPU backstay providing support and durability; multi-zone rubber outsole for superior traction; and Phylon midsole with Nike Zoom Air for impact protection and cushioning. Its most unique feature, of course, is the overall design, highlighted by elephant-print overlays that take obvious inspiration from the iconic Air Jordan III Black/Cement (along with side netting reminiscent of Air Jordan V). Available in Black/Black-Cement Grey-Varsity Red, the Nike Zoom Kaiju Snowboarding Boot is in stock now at NikeStore.com.

Felix Baumgartner Completes ‘Jump From the Edge of Space’
"After flying to an altitude of 39,044 meters (128,097 feet) in a helium-filled balloon, Felix Baumgartner & Red Bull completed a record breaking “jump from the edge of space.” The 43-year-old Austrian skydiving expert also broke two other world records (highest freefall, highest manned balloon flight), leaving the longest freefall record to project mentor Col. Joe Kittinger.
Baumgartner landed safely in Roswell, New Mexico after jumping out of his space capsule at 39,044 meters and plummeting back towards earth, hitting a maximum of speed of 1,137 km/h through the near vacuum of the stratosphere before being slowed by the atmosphere later during his 4:19-minute long freefall. Baumgartner’s jump lasted a total of 9:03 minutes.
“It was an incredible up and down today, just like it’s been with the whole project,” said Baumgartner. “First we got off with a beautiful launch and then we had a bit of drama with a power supply issue to my visor. The exit was perfect but then I started spinning slowly. I thought I’d just spin a few times and that would be that, but then I started to speed up. It was really brutal at times. I thought for a few seconds that I’d lose consciousness. I didn’t feel a sonic boom because I was so busy just trying to stabilize myself. We’ll have to wait and see if we really broke the sound barrier. It was really a lot harder than I thought it was going to be.”

Live Coverage of the Base Jump from the Edge Of Space
"Felix Baumgartner is determined to jump from the edge of space and break the speed of sound! Baumgartner’s aim is to skydive from a pressurized capsule attached to a helium balloon at a height of over 120,000 feet, free falling for over 5 minutes in temperatures that could fall below -70°C. The jump will make him the first person ever to break the sound barrier unaided, meaning his body will have to withstand the force of a sonic boom. Wearing a space suit is crucial to his survival. If a breach of the suit occurs, some of the possible risks will include collapsing lungs, boiling blood, and eyes popping out of his head. Training and long-term preparations have been absolutely necessary.
Born in Salzburg in 1969, Felix Baumgartner began skydiving at the age of 16 and optimized his skills as part of the Austrian military’s demonstration and competition team. In 1988 he began performing skydiving exhibitions for Red Bull. Felix’s adventurous spirit and Red Bull’s company concept appeared to be the perfect match and they’ve collaborated ever since. The Austrian Daredevil holds various world records in base jumping including the world record lowest base jump from Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (95 feet) in 1999, and the world record base jump from the world’s tallest building in Taipei, the 101 Tower in Taiwan (1,669 feet) in 2007. In 2003 he crossed the channel from Dover, England to Calais, France as the first winged freefall crossing of the English Channel. However, Baumgartner’s achievements don´t stop there. The list goes on for quite a while. To challenge himself in the most possible way he is pushing himself to the limit of physical boundaries. With a team of the world’s top scientists, engineers, and doctors behind him, he’s ready to rewrite history and advance aeronautical research by base jumping from the egde of space.
Depending on various conditions the earliest option for the world record jump is 11.30am (MDT)/ 17.30pm (GMT) TODAY.
Stay updated with the preparation for the upcoming event.
Red Bull is covering the base jump LIVE here." - High Snobiety

Kiteboarder Hannah Whiteley Gets “Lost On An Island” in Venezuela
First time really getting a look into kiteboarding, looks pretty bad ass...
"Professional kiteboarder Hannah Whiteley left the cold British winter back in March and April for a ride around warmer South American waters. Coche Venezuela sets the idyllic scene for this Lana del Ray soundtrack-supplied short capturing her training trip. Shot and cut by Andre Magarao from Brazil it offers beautiful landscape scenes as well as of course the talents of Whiteley herself.

Michael Jordan’s Highland Park Home On The Market
What an amazing home. I'm assuming the possible context for this sale would be due to the fact that Jordan is no longer with his wife and they're looking to sell and move their separate ways...
"Michael Jordan’s mansion in Highland Park has hit the market, and you’re going to have to have sell a lot of rare Air Jordans if you want to put in an offer. Listed at a cool $29 million, the compound measures over 56,000 square feet, with nine bedrooms, a three-bedroom guest house, indoor-outdoor entertaining and pool area, tennis court, putting green and 15-car garage. Needless to say, there’s an attached indoor full-sized basketball court complete with a sound system tuned to provide the right acoustics for the space. The tastefully appointed house is where Michael and now former wife Juanita raised their three children. One prospective buyer has already complained about the lack of “Nike Air” on the gates. (We kid.) Check out more looks following the click. via: Baird & Warner" - Freshness

Nike To Officially Join “Linsanity” – Nike Basketball Extends Jeremy Lin’s Contract and a Hyperfuse 2011 P.E.
More exciting news regarding Jeremy Lin's success, Nike to extend his contract and potentially give him a signature shoe...
"A raise to stardom that caught even the most seasoned sports reporters off guard, the success of Jeremy Lin reached a culmination of sort today as Nike extended its contract with the New York Knicks point guard. An extension to the original 2010 contract Lin signed after graduating from Harvard and before his rookie season at Golden State Warriors, the purported deal also offers Lin with his own signature footwear, rumored as the Nike Hyperfuse 2011 “Linsanity” P.E. in Knicks’ coloways of orange, blue, and white. While no details are available at this time. Nike will most likely coincide Lin’s recent fame, both here but especially abroad in China, with a new marketing campaign. The news, first reported by Beijing Business Today and ESPN Radio, is seen by some as a preemptive move by Nike before its Chinese competitors, such as Li Ning and Peak Sports, make their offers to Lin. More information to come as all sides pan out all the details. In the meantime, Nike Basketball just updated its site with a post titled “When Your Number Is Called, Be Ready.”

When your number is called, be ready.
Jeremy Lin might not have been a household name a few weeks ago, but he was still in the gym. Still putting in time to be the best player that he could be because he believed. Through being undrafted and cut, and then sitting on the bench in New York, Lin believed he would get his opportunity to show that he belonged in the NBA. He did get that opportunity and when it arrived, he was ready. Basketball never stopped for Lin, even when the circumstances were not what he had hoped.
While a 6-foot-3 point guard from Harvard isn’t the prototypical NBA player, when you boil it down, what matters isn’t who you are, but what you can do. Thanks to his hard work ethic and commitment to getting better, Lin has proven he can do the things necessary to be an NBA point guard. In the past two weeks, he’s shown he can be the starting point guard for a New York Knicks team that was desperate for stability.
Since Lin has taken over the reins at the one spot, the Knicks have won seven straight games. Lin is averaging 24.4 points and 9 assists per game over those seven victories. He’s getting his teammates -all of them involved and he’s changed the spirit of the team. He’s gone from last man on the bench to playing under the bright lights of Madison Square Garden and his transition has been a smooth one because he was ready. Whether you’re playing under bright lights with the biggest stars in the game or in a dimly-lit gym by yourself, play for the right reasons, train as though you’re training for your big break and when it comes, you’ll be ready." - Freshness

Not particularly a fan of the US/European cover. However, this is a great shot of the latest NBA sensation, Jeremy Lin. It's been amazing watching his progress on the Knicks. Congrats to him and his family...

Breaking News: NBA Season Unlikely Now With Players’ Union Disbanded
Well, at least they somewhat tried to salvage the season. Here's to hoping for next season...
"Faced with no remediation in sight, Billy Hunter and Derek Fisher, executives of National Basketball Players Association, the labor union of NBA players, announced the union’s disbandment moments ago in New York City. The development came as union officials, players, and their representatives met for a 4-hour strategy session this morning. At the heart of the matter was persistent impasse between the players and NBA team owners’ demands on the latest contract negotiation. Just before the weekend, NBA team owners along with NBA Commissioner David Stern warned about further negotiations, that the players should agree on the final contract proposals. Simply could not accept the contract terms, the N.B.P.A. decided to dissolve the union instead. By doing so, the players are now free to file lawsuit against the NBA as a challenge to the current lockout’s legality under antitrust law. Thus, making an already contemptuous situation even more so.

"Snow-surfing..."
Japanese hand-made "snow-surfing" boards...totally rad! Granted I haven't been on a board in years and if anything am still barely a novice, I can definitely appreciate the design behind these innovative approach to the sport of snowboarding.
"Japanese designer and inveterate snowboarder Taro Tamai has been hand-shaping his eye-catching Gentemstick boards for over a decade. An answer to the homogenization of board shapes that happened as snowboarding gained mainstream appeal, Tamai's goal is no less than to "perfectly blend into the terrain miraculously made of snow and wind, just as if birds flying in the sky or fish flowing in the stream." The upshot of his philosophical approach to the sport (he calls it snow-surfing) is a line of boards renowned for their flexible fins, oversized sized fish tails and rideability in almost any snow condition.
Previously only available in Japan, Gentemsticks made their U.S. debut last year, yet you can still only get a glimpse at a couple that live at San Francisco, CA's Mollusk Surf Shop. Otherwise, they sell from their online store, or by making a direct email request. As long as you place yours before the July cut-off, they'll hand-make it to your specifications." - Cool Hunting
